The First Stage of Folly (is to Consider Oneself Wise)
What wisdom do I impart to my children as they prepare to launch into adulthood? How do I explain today’s political divide, mass shootings, police brutality, climate change, racism, global corruption, children taken from their parents as they flee atrocities?
How do I explain any of this to my children without leaving them cynical, without destroying their earnest desire to do good in the world? I am at a loss. So I am relying on proverbs from cultures across the world to offer a hint of wisdom, a salve, something to hold on to when understanding fails.
